A new beta release of CD-i Emulator is now available from the Downloads section of the CD-i Emulator website at https://www.cdiemu.org/downloads/.

Release notes can be found in the RELNOTES file included in the download; a summary as well as the full version is available from the Release Notes section at https://www.cdiemu.org/relnotes/.

This version of CD-i Emulator is the tenth beta release for version 0.5.3, which is now in maintenance mode as all development has shifted to version 0.6.0 for which a first public beta release is expected soon.

Enabled by a large git history creation session, a significant number of bug fixes and improvements have been backported from version 0.6.0 development, including:

- Stereo CD-DA audio at 44.1 kHz was incorrectly producing mono output; this has been fixed.

- ADPCM audio upsampling has been improved with a polyphase post-filter, producing significantly smoother audio output. This is enabled by default and can be turned off with the -nopostfilteraudio option.

- CD-DA audio disc sectors were being requested with an incorrect sector format from disc image files; this has been corrected, fixing CD-DA audio playback from scrambled disc images.

- The CD-i CDIC hardware sound parameter byte and a DMA channel initialization problem have been fixed, which may affect audio decoding for some titles.

- IMPEG and VMPEG FMV cartridge operation has been improved by correctly emulating the VSYNC interrupt bit in the FMV interrupt status register.

- A buffer allocation bug in disc directory and path table reading that causes memory corruption crashes has been fixed, enabling file read tracing in the debug window.

- The front panel LED display for the CD-i 200 player is now supported.

- A new -runshell option has been added to start an OS-9 shell directly from ROM.

- New debugger commands "unset" and "ei" (OS-9 IRQ polling table display) have been added.

- The disassembler now shows .W/.L size suffixes on addresses and a .S suffix on short branch instructions.

- Several other bug fixes; see the Release Notes for the full list.

The built-in expiration date for this release is 2027/01/01.

As with all previous beta versions, using a Mono-I CD-i system ROM (also called BIOS) will give you unlimited emulation functionality; this is the same ROM file needed for the MESS/MAME CD-i driver.

To obtain unlimited emulation functionality with a different CD-i system ROM file, please buy the still available unlimited edition of version 0.5.2. Activating this on your PC will also unlock the unlimited emulation functionality of this beta version.

If you have bug reports or feature requests please use the GitHub issue tracker at https://github.com/cdifan/cdiemu/issues; as of right now no CD-i Emulator source code is on GitHub but eventually there will be.

For comments, questions and discussion you can use the #emulation subforum of the Philips CD-i Community Discord server reachable at https://discord.gg/TKPejTfw6D. I am known there as CD-i Fan (cdifan).

You can also reach me via e-mail using cdifan@gmail.com, but this will not involve the larger CD-i community and is hence discouraged.

If you like my work and/or would like to support future development, you can also send me a donation. You can send PayPal payments to payment@cdiemu.org or use one of the following websites:

https://www.buymeacoffee.com/cdifan

https://ko-fi.com/cdifan

You can still buy the unlimited edition of version 0.5.2, but sometime in the future this will no longer be possible. Go to the Payments section of the website and get an original serialized version while you still can!

Have fun emulating your favorite CD-i titles!

 Lost Cryptocurrency to a Scam? Professional Investigation and Recovery Support May Help

Discovering that your cryptocurrency has been stolen can be devastating. Whether the loss resulted from an investment scam, phishing attack, hacked wallet, fake exchange, or unauthorized transaction, the feeling is often the same—confusion, frustration, and uncertainty about what to do next.

The good news is that not all hope is lost. While cryptocurrency transactions are generally irreversible, blockchain technology creates a permanent record of every transaction. This means that stolen funds often leave a trail that can be investigated. That's where GRAYWARE TECH SERVICES comes in.

 Why Act Quickly After a Crypto Scam?

Time is one of the most important factors in any cryptocurrency investigation. The sooner suspicious transactions are identified and analyzed, the greater the opportunity to trace assets before they are moved through multiple wallets or exchanged across platforms.

Many victims make the mistake of waiting too long or trusting individuals who promise guaranteed recovery. In reality, legitimate recovery efforts begin with professional investigation, evidence collection, and blockchain analysis.

 How GRAYWARE TECH SERVICES Can Help

GRAYWARE TECH SERVICES specializes in:

* Cryptocurrency scam investigations
* Blockchain transaction tracing
* Bitcoin and digital asset analysis
* Cybersecurity consulting
* Digital forensics
* Data recovery assistance
* Fraud documentation and reporting support

Using advanced investigative tools and industry knowledge, the team works to identify transaction paths, uncover connections between wallets, and provide clients with detailed findings that may support recovery efforts, legal action, or regulatory complaints.

 Beware of Fake Recovery Experts

Unfortunately, many scam victims become targets a second time. Fraudsters often pose as "recovery hackers" and promise to recover stolen Bitcoin for an upfront fee. These claims are usually false.

GRAYWARE TECH SERVICES believes in transparency, professionalism, and realistic expectations. No legitimate company can honestly guarantee recovery, but experienced investigators can provide valuable insight, evidence, and guidance that may improve your chances of achieving a positive outcome.

 Take the First Step Toward Recovery

If you have lost cryptocurrency to fraud, theft, or unauthorized access, don't face the situation alone.

Hi all,

I picked up an original Philips CD-i Roller Controller (22ER9012) and would like to use it with the CD-i core on MiSTer FPGA. Rather than going the SNAC level-shifting route (which the CD-i core’s SNAC documentation flags as potentially problematic for some pointing devices due to voltage-level mismatches), I’m considering converting it into a standard USB HID mouse instead.

The idea: tap the trackball’s quadrature signals directly from the optical encoders (bypassing the original CD-i serial protocol entirely) and feed them into a small microcontroller (Arduino Pro Micro/Leonardo) running USB HID mouse firmware. That way it would work as a plug-and-play USB mouse — usable in the CD-i core via a regular USB port, and also on a PC for things like ScummVM.

Before I start cutting into the PCB, I wanted to ask:

• Has anyone here already done this conversion (for any system, not just CD-i), or seen one documented?

• Does anyone have photos, traces, or a schematic of the Roller Controller’s internal PCB showing the encoder/sensor pinout? I’ve found references to the LTE-302 (IR emitter) and LTR-301 (phototransistor) parts used inside, but no full wiring diagram.

• Any known quirks with this specific unit’s signal levels or wiring I should watch out for?

I wanted to know if you know of a CD-i edition (even unrealized) of Coktel Vision's Fascination game? There's nothing to indicate this, except perhaps this header page of a manual with the mention Philips. It doesn't prove anything, but I wanted to submit it to The World of CD-i community to find out more...

Hello everyone,

I've been using The World of CD-i for research for a while now, so I decided to sign up to participate.

I remember the first time I saw one in real life. It was in a Virgin Megastore, I was a teenager and there were lots of games being demonstrated. It was really fascinating to see and very High Teck for the time.

I'm not fortunate enough to have a CD-i, but as I'm involved in many projects as a PC translator. The CD-i has naturally made a comeback thanks to the quality of its French resources, especially the dubbing! It's a dream come true for future French adaptations.

PC ports by experienced fans such as Dopply or Shikotei leave me speechless, it's just incredible to be able to offer such achievements. Many thanks to them!

If I had to choose just one CD-i game, it would be Kether. It's my favorite.

Thanks to the whole team at The World of CD-i and long live the forum!
