CD-I 660 & CD-I 615
hello I have the CDI 660
and I notice a removable part in the facade, where the CDI 615 has a floppy drive
already, what was the D7 reader used for? to register after-sales service or to run homebrews?
then, has anyone ever added a D7 drive to a CDI 660?

In fact, there is a removable part from then CD-i 660. I also own one, a very beautiful machine...
Then drive from the CD-i 615 was used by the programmers to save data from/to PC and Mac and use under programs like MediaMogul.
We don't known yet the possibility to add a drive to the CD-i 660 as we do not have any 615 to open and compare the motherboard to see if it is possible to connect.
This is a question we and @retrostuff already talk about.
We will let you know if we find a 615 opened 😉
I'm thinking of opening mine to see if there are any free connectors for the D7 🙂
if it could be the standard of PC tablecloths it would be the best but alas we know the love of phillips for proprietary formats 😆

You can't connect a FDD to a 660 because it is missing an important part: An extension module that sits between mainboard and DVC. I've seen it only once in one of the CD-i Facebook groups when somebody opened up a 615 for repair (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1534666520144466/permalink/2642173756060398/)
In the Mono IV service manuals, this extension is also mentioned (see attachment).
As for the use of the floppy drive, it is not for authoring/programming but for groupworking and classroom applications instead. CD-i Fan released the tech. documentation for both players; make sure to read them, very interesting stuff: http://www.icdia.co.uk/techdocs/index.html
